Nancy Drew Notebook #5 The Soccer Shoe Clue – My Review

I read The Soccer Shoe Clue last year during the summer and I think it’s great. I hadn’t read a Nancy Drew Notebook before that and this was a perfect one for me to read right off the bat. (Wrong sports metaphor there, I know. 😛 ) With the soccer/football mystery element, I had to read it first! Right away it was a hole in one…..(Still wrong sports metaphor 🙄 ).

Back to the mystery. I loved it! ♥ Definitely an enjoyable read that is good and realistic with Nancy, George, Bess, Hannah, and Carson Drew. The well-written mystery is intriguing, allowing the reader to find clues Nancy Drew Notebook #5 The Soccer Shoe Clueand try to figure out, from the various suspects, who might be the saboteur with motives and opportunities. The soccer/football is well-done. Not every sports-related mystery is a shot on goal. (There that’s the right sports metaphor! 😀 ).Yet, it also is interesting enough for someone who’s not a sports fan. The dialogue is good and flows well with believable, unique characters. This is an interesting mystery with a plot that isn’t too easy or too difficult. The sleuthing makes sense and the clues are fun to find.

As it shows on the cover, this is a “Ready-for-Chapters” mystery with shorter chapters and younger reading than the Nancy Drew series. Nancy, George and Bess are eight years old in this series, being friends, helping people, having adventures, and solving mysteries. It’s cool seeing them doing that whatever age they are. 🙂

Here’s the synopsis:

Kick! Splat! Yuck!
Who let the air out of the soccer ball? Who added salt to the water on the sidelines? Who put the red glop in the goalie’s soccer shoes?
It’s gooey. It’s gross. It’s not fair. Soccer is supposed to be a kick. But somebody’s being a drag. Nancy Drew wants to know who’s playing the silly games with her third grade soccer team!

I really enjoyed the whole book and how it worked out. I’ll definitely want to re-read it. And I’m trying others in the series, also. I think all Nancy Drew fans would enjoy this book. It has humor, mystery, a good pace, and the author wrote the characters right. That is very, very important to me! They all acted like themselves, being real, not lying, and being kind. As a mystery interwoven with a sport, this book helps point out that you can be competitive and not be a jerk. 😎

Nancy Drew Notebook #5 The Soccer Shoe Clue is available brand new in paperback and ebook from many booksellers. Hopefully it also can be checked out of your local library – it should be! 🙂 This one is a GOAL! 😀 And now you’ve read my review for The Soccer Shoe Clue! 🙂

Straight From the Books – Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Facts 1

If you’re interested in facts straight from the Hardy Boys books and Nancy Drew books then that means accuracy is important to you. It definitely is to me and I tend to make mental and/or typed notes of various things from the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew books.

You see quite a few errors online as you surf around looking for Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew information. Some errors you come across are just copied from other incorrect online sources. Plus you’ll find errors resulting from misusing words – with the person failing to grasp a definition. All are easily disproven, usually just by picking up a Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew book and actually reading them. Sometimes you might find a discrepancy in a book itself due to the number of ghostwriters or the writer being unfamiliar with basic, solid Hardy or Nancy facts. So if you come across something that just isn’t correct and true to their character, you can toss it out as an error by the writer – because that’s exactly what it is. What’s true is true and what isn’t true is….false. 😀

Ok, Hardy trivia: In my story, Hardys Inn Danger, they go to the Bayport Bijou. Is there such a place in the books? Yep, sure is, called the Bijou or the Bayport Bijou. Not a whole lot on it – much of the detail about what it looks like and who owns it comes from my imagination. You can go to the Bijou/Bayport Bijou in these books respectively ~ Hardy Boys #16 A Figure in Hiding and Hardy Boys Adventures #2 Mystery of the Phantom Heist. 😎

How about Nancy, where’s a place to go to the movies in her hometown? In #8 Nancy’s Mysterious Letter, she and Hannah check out a movie when they went to the River Heights Theater to cheer up Nancy. 🙂

Keep checking back here for more blog entries with Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew trivia/facts straight from the books. 😎 Here’s the link to the page where I’ll add the HB/ND info to Hardy/Drew Facts Straight From the Books. 🙂

Nancy Drew #11 The Clue of the Broken Locket ~ My Review

Nancy Drew #11 The Clue of the Broken Locket by Carolyn Keene

This is one of my favorite Nancy Drew covers ever – it just looks so cool. As a mystery reader, you’re immediately curious of what’s going on and what’s up with that mysterious locket Nancy’s holding in her hand. You just know there’s an intriguing story connected to it – and you find out that includes treasure! Even more important than the treasure, it’s a clue to those who are in danger and need help. There is more than one mystery in this book, which I love for there to be several in one volume. 😎 Great sleuthing from Nancy and the others to gather clues to solve these mysteries. The investigating, especially at night, is super-fun. 😎

In The Clue of the Broken Locket you’ll find: mysterious settings, stay at a cool cabin, hear some rockin’ music, see a curious sight of an alleged “phantom ship”, investigate a one-of-a-kind lodge, travel to Baltimore, Maryland, come across a Civil War era mystery still needing to be solved, learn what the clue in the broken locket is all about, and discover cool hidden places. Plenty of things to enjoy!

There are definitely some edge-of-your-seat scenes – literally for me. 😛 I’m reading the book, just really into it and focused on it then my Mom, who’d been in another room, innocently comes to tell me something and I jump! 😀 I was there with Nancy investigating, so I was startled! Told you I get into the books! My Mom totally understood – with a smile. 🙂

Absolutely love Ned in this book. He does a great job investigating and is very proud of Nancy. He was sure that the police chief there at Misty Lake hadn’t found out as much as Nancy had – and Ned was absolutely right. 😎 My favorite part in the whole book is when Ned wants to go punch the jerks who are being mean to the little twins in the story. One of the biggest reasons that I like the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys books is because they, and others, help people and rescue them from bad ones – and stop wrongdoing. That is a universal necessity.

There are a number of excellent internal illustrations. The first one is a great, and intense, action one with Nancy trying to avoid being captured by the bad ones, who’ve been chasing her. I love seeing the pictures in the books.

Great quote by Nancy, trying to reassure her worried friends and explain how she can’t quite avoid danger ~ “But I never know when I’m going to have to take chances!” she countered. Thanks for taking chances, Nancy. 🙂

The I-can’t-believe-they-did-that-because-they-just-wouldn’t-do-that award goes to the scene where Nancy and Cecily, whom they’re helping, rescue one person, but still have others to rescue and the bad ones are likely to show up anytime, yet stand there and talk for a long time! That is really not the time to catch up on the details of the mystery. That can all be recounted LATER when everyone’s safe!!!! 😮

Still, that aside, there’s so much great sleuthing by our friends, with a lot of heart, bravery, courage, and tenacity. Intriguing mysteries, romance, and more than one reunion! I recommend this one to every Nancy Drew, and Hardy Boys, fan. 🙂

This mystery is available in hardcover and ebook at booksellers and libraries – check it out if you like good mysteries! 🙂
