The Hardy Boys #30 The Wailing Siren Mystery ~ My Review

Hardy Boys fans have a lot to enjoy in The Wailing Siren Mystery, the 30th volume of the main HB series! 😀 Great scenes, intense danger, and thrilling excitement in this. Great family, too. I love that. 🙂 You’ve got all kinds of things happening! An intense storm at the beginning while the Hardy brothers are in their boat, Sleuth. A mysterious siren, money falling from the sky, danger from a potential collision with a yacht, theft, kidnapping – and that’s just in the first half of the book!!!! And you’re there with them every step of the way! 😎 The exciting action is great. The heart-warming brotherly love is great. It’s an excellent read! 🙂

The mysteries in the book all flow well and while a lot goes on, it’s not too much. I love that many Hardy book characters show up in The Wailing Siren Mystery. The whole Hardy family ~ Fenton, Laura, Frank, Joe, and Aunt Gertrude. Joe’s love, Iola, and Frank’s love, Callie. Chet Morton, Biff Hooper, Tony Prito, Officer Con Riley, Fenton’s operative Sam Radley, Chief Ezra Collig, Jack Wayne gets introduced – and kidnapped by the bad guys! And we even have an appearance by Oscar Smuff, who’s a policeman in the mystery and does his job. 😮 I missed Phil Cohen in this one. He must have been on vacation elsewhere. Hope he had fun! 🙂

There are so many parts I could quote and talk about – how do I choose?!?!?! 😀 The clues, investigating, and crime-fighting are very well done. They use their brains and utilize resources including tech and fight when they have to. 😎

Frank is kidnapped and what an intense part of the book that is! Joe is a great brother (so is Frank!) and he knows something isn’t right. He goes to investigate and tries to find his brother. You can’t stop reading! 😮 Great brotherly love. 🙂 😎

As has been mentioned on The Bayport Library page here, the wolves are scary. They can be terrifying in the book because of the realistic writing.

Okay, so there are number of really intense scenes! Another one is when Joe goes missing and Frank’s really worried. Joe and Chet risk their lives and well-being at a threat to Iola’s life. I don’t think I can tell you more without spoilers! If you’ve read it you know what I’m talking about, and if you haven’t, you will when you read it! 🙂

So many great quotes in The Wailing Siren Mystery. Such as from feisty Aunt Gertrude ~

…Aunt Gertrude said excitedly: “Take your two-way radio and keep in touch. If anybody bothers you, I’ll give him a piece of my mind!”

And she means it, too! 😀 😎

There are a lot of great scenes in this book (I think I’ve already alluded to that 😉 Oh, wait, I think I flat-out said that 😀 ), but I’ll share this one with everyone where a bad guy is trying to scare the Hardy brothers. Yeah, I love that they don’t let the bad guys win or intimidate them. Frank and Joe outwit him. 😀 To set the scene, they are on the Sleuth and the one bad guy pirate has just gotten on the boat and is asking the brothers if they’re going to leave or not like they’d been warned and threatened to ~

He was several inches over six feet and as burly as a bear. menacingly he approached Joe.

   “Are you going to scram?”

   “No.”

The man lunged at Joe, who tried to grapple with him. Frank sprang to his brother’s defense, but before he could clamp a hold on the stranger, the assailant had pitched Joe far over the side of the boat. After a brief struggle Frank followed. The Hardys bobbed to the surface several feet from the boats.

Frank hissed into Joe’s ear, “Pretend we can’t swim.”

The boys thrashed about madly, crying for help.

I just love the way they tricked the bad guys! There’s more to the scene and I could keep going. There are a number of cool action scenes throughout the book. It’s really difficult not putting on more, but I can’t put practically the whole book on here. 😛 Believe me, you want to read this one. Most libraries should have it and certainly booksellers should also. 🙂

Brave Aunt Gertrude does a great job with helping Joe against a thug by using a shillelagh (shillelagh just sounds so cool) saving Joe from a vicious kick. 🙂

Another great quote that is the difficult, but necessary stance ~

“We don’t go for deals,” Joe said.

Even when things looked bad they didn’t give up hope and are defiant against the bad guys. A lot of bravery in this mystery! Look at all they have to fight – greedy, violent, murderous thieves. Multiple kidnappings, grand larceny, and a lot more. That takes more than a little courage and skill – and of course, a lot of prayer!

The Hardy Boys #30 The Wailing Siren Mystery is available in hardback and digital formats at booksellers and libraries. I definitely recommend it! 🙂 😎

For everyone who has been reading it recently, too, or has read it before, or is looking forward to reading it, please let me know what you think! 🙂 There’s definitely a lot to like about this exciting mystery! 🙂 😎

Hardy Boys Adventures #14 Attack of the Bayport Beast ~ My Review

An entertaining read for this new Hardy Boys book, the 14th volume of the ongoing Hardy Boys Adventures series! 🙂 As Joe says in the book “Sounds like a mystery.” 😎 Yep! 🙂 Plenty of cool things to enjoy about this one! : the Hardy brothers – of course!, mysterious real and faux clues to discern, humor, bravery, along with a range of fun to intense sleuthing. The first chapter sets a good tone for the rest of the book by starting things off in a humorous and fun way. Already there are some great quotes as Frank, Joe, and their friend Hector are checking out the sci-fi convention in Bayport ~

I felt like I was babysitting two toddlers who were distracted by every toy they came across. ~ Frank Hardy

😆 Haha! 😆 And then Frank talking about reality shows ~

Just because it’s called reality doesn’t mean it’s real

So very, very true, Mr. Hardy!!!! 😎

The cover art is really cool showing an excellent action scene. 😎

The brother team of Frank and Joe are ready for this challenge – an unusual mystery that needs to be investigated. It starts to become more dangerous and ominous as the book goes on. They have to be ready and observant as well as brave while they sleuth for clues. I really enjoyed catching the clues as they were woven into the mystery. 😎

Camping was cool with the descriptions of the national forest being really good – you could feel like you were there. There’re definitely some scary intense scenes. Of course camping is usually in tents, but also intense in this adventure!! 😉 Truly. Like Joe said about dealing with each serious thing “One catastrophe at a time.”

I love that the writer notes that Frank and Joe can see clues as if they were written out. An accurate description of the well-honed detective skills. I like it and really appreciate it when the writing reflects their great ability as detectives. Like it was in this book and others; that can be done without them knowing everything or knowing nothing. I always appreciate when the writer remembers, as this one did, that they are observant detectives, as opposed to some books where the characters are written like they don’t even have the basic concepts of Basic Detective Skills 101 down.

I’m glad the writer has them intrigued about the mystery of why there were claims of sightings while not believing it.

I have to say that “cool” and “zombie movie” are contrary, disconnected concepts and words. And millions of years is an archaic theory that remains unproven.

Some intriguing twists to the mystery. As I mentioned already, I enjoyed figuring out clues and potential reasons for what was going on. I was pretty sure that some things that had happened were important factors to what was going on. Good pace to the book, too.

Absolutely thought the poetic justice was very appropriate during the finale scene of the book.

The brother team, the sleuthing, the humor were great and I really enjoyed the book. 🙂 This I will want to read again – I’m glad I have this Hardys Boys Adventures in paperback. 😎

You can check out the paperback, hardcover, or ebook at bookstores, physical and online, and at your local library. 😎

The Hardy Boys Papercutz Graphic Novel #7 The Opposite Numbers ~ My Review

A roller coaster ride for The Hardy Boys graphic novel, The Opposite Numbers, volume 7 from Papercutz! 😀 Great cover, as you can see in this post! 😎 I love the beginning of the book with the case they’ve been working on. The brothers are doing their part to rescue Aunt Trudy’s parrot, Playback, and other animals. Good action and humor in the opening scenes – really enjoyable. 🙂 Very re-readable, too. 😀 I’ve read it quite a few times! 😎 I really like way the Undercover Brothers finish a case at the beginning of the books and then go to the next one. 😎 Opening with exciting action is always cool. 😎

After that excitement is wrapped up, it’s time for a break from school for a while. 😎 Nice seeing Chet and Callie. 😎 I like that Callie was going to use her free time to help kids. 😎 Some of the rest of that scene didn’t make sense with whoever the one student was supposed to be seemed like she was snobby and narcissistic. 🙄 Didn’t care for that.

Great cover – another favorite Hardy Boys Graphic Novel cover art! 😎

Hardy Boys Graphic Novel #7 The Opposite NumbersOne of my absolute fave scenes in the book is the part at the train, right after Frank and Joe arrive there to board, and the Hardy brothers bravely do what they can to prevent a literal train wreck. Cool when they immediately ran to help – talk about exciting! 😎 I loved that!  😎 Another favorite scene is when the conductor needs help getting back in the train after getting pushed by a culprit. Courage and excitement! Great action in all of those 5 star scenes! I love the excitement, the danger, and the excellent teamwork, as in any Hardy Boys books that I enjoy. 🙂 😎

The book could be a little bit distracting at times because it went back and forth between artists. First was Daniel Rendon, then Paulo Henrique, then back to Daniel Rendon, and then the rest of the book was Paulo Henrique and Sidney Lima. That shouldn’t stop anyone from reading it, though!

There were various characters on the train Frank and Joe had to help and contend with, providing several suspects. You had to figure out if the characters were just sorta odd or wackos. The Noir sisters are…annoiring. 😉 The gung-ho guard dude was also seriously annoying. There are annoying people out there, though! I knew there were two trustworthy people on the train – Frank and Joe. 😎

The parts I loved I really loved and want to read again! 🙂 Always, I love the brothers teamwork and not giving up even when things look bad! 😎

Hardy Boys graphic novel #7 The Opposite Numbers from Papercutz is available digitally at ebooksellers and at libraries as well as used booksellers in paperback and hardcover. 🙂 It’s definitely worth a read or two or more! 🙂

Hardy Boys Adventures #13 Bound for Danger ~ My Review

Hardy Boys Adventures #13 Bound for Danger

To start off my review for Hardy Boys Adventures #13, Bound for Danger, I’m going to quote my favorite line from the book – a great quote by Joe and he would definitely say this ~ “Well, that wasn’t fun.” Hazing is never fun.

There are things I liked about the book and things I didn’t like…..as will be seen in my review. 😉 The cover is cool. 😎

The first chapter hadn’t excited me when I read it in the back of The Madman of Black Bear Mountain. When I started reading Bound for Danger I found where the sneak peek had left off and started from there. I hadn’t forgotten the first chapter and didn’t want to read it again.

I don’t understand the author writing the brothers as almost clueless about basketball. It was for the sake of the mystery, I know, but it was distracting and incorrect. I don’t like things contrary to established Hardy facts. I pushed past that and hoped the rest was better and made up for that error. If I’d enjoyed the book more, it definitely would have been easier to ignore.

Fact I’d like to point out: you can be creative and musical AND be athletic.

The things I liked in the book: the Hardy brothers, the teamwork, the not giving up (error in book: said gave up but didn’t in actuality). I was hoping for like what to do about hazing or giving people ideas how to fight it. It didn’t exactly do that, so I talked it over with a sib (who usually also reads Hardy Boys books with me, but decided this wasn’t one to read. Correct decision.)

I like the brothers taking care of things, stopping the hazing, capturing and stopping bad people, and I love the brothers looking out for each other as always. I’m glad the book pointed out how hazing is wrong, cowardly, and bad. Hazing is warped and stupid. I believe people who commit acts of hazing are punks and thugs.

Hazing is wrong. It’s asinine. It’s wrong to hurt people, it’s cruel and I certainly wouldn’t feel any solidarity with anyone who did that to me. I’ve been taught to stand up for myself, think for myself, don’t go along with something that is wrong, cruel, or immoral. If anyone treats you like that, they aren’t your friends, they aren’t your teammates, and can’t be trusted. I’m not referring to silly pranks, I’m referring to dangerous, everyone-knows-it’s-harmful kinds of things. Joking around, punching and wrestling is fine and much different than beating someone up. Hazing is cruel and mean-spirited and no one should participate or condone it.

Something that is sadly accurate in the book is that not all teachers, etc., are trustworthy or willing to do the right thing and stand against hazing. Everyone needs to stand up against that.

Bound for Danger overall can be summed up with a number of words. Disturbing. A bit depressing. Confusing. Odd at times. Some things didn’t make sense of why some things were in there. :/

They stopped short several times – would have pursued about the fake essay, not just taken it. That was so frustrating.

I didn’t like profanity on page 68. I can overlook cussing, please don’t use profanity.

Of the most recent Hardy Boys Adventures, I would recommend to read #11 Showdown at Widow Creek and #12 The Madman of Black Bear Mountain instead of this one. I had hoped Bound for Danger would be a lot better than it was, but also it could have been worse.

I love the confidence Joe has in his big bro’s ability. 😎

I love the poetic justice when the Hardys scared the jerks – that was cool.

Like Joe, I have no idea what song they were singing at the end of the book. I’m glad it was a short book and I have hope that the next one, #14 Attack of the Bayport Beast, will be much better. 🙂

Slight spoiler: One of the victims of the hazing chose to become one of the evil mob doing the hazing. That made him guilty, too, by partaking. Those involved by ordering it are also guilty. That’s not something they’ve overcome together, that’s a criminal cowardly act – as noted in the book – that they’ve perpetrated. I’m very thankful that the author didn’t have Frank or Joe commit any of the acts of hazing, otherwise I would have hated the book because they wouldn’t do that.

The Hardy Boys #2 The House on the Cliff ~ My Review

If you love action and excitement, you will likely want to check out, along with the Hardy brothers, Frank and Joe, The House on the Cliff, and find out what the deal is there. 😉 Directions on how to reach it is easy, but once there it’s up to the reader and the Hardys. When reading The Hardy Boys The House on the Cliff, you’ll fight drug smugglers, search for clues, be there for exciting rescues, and solve the puzzling mysteries! 😎 Lots of cool action in this one!

I love mysterious houses and the house on the cliff definitely qualifies. Secret hiding places, etc. to search and explore. You can picture it all. Mysterious strangers, clues, suspects, sounds, are all in this mystery, waiting for you to investigate these things with the Hardys! 😎 You have to watch out for the bad guys – a deadly gang whose greed makes them ruthless and treacherous. They will attempt to outsmart you, but don’t let them trick you.

Also, a cool thing that you can find in this Hardy Boys mystery, as well as others, is the fact that Joe and Frank’s mom, Laura, keeps up with the cases and mysteries. I love that the whole family is close and there for each other. That’s the way it should be – a mother and father who care about their offspring, and the love and respect that all four Hardy family members have for one another. 😎

The search for Frank and Joe’s dad, Fenton, who’s been missing, and the action, danger, and excitement that comes with that is great! 😎 None of them ever give up and they take the dangerous risks they need to with courage and determination. That’s one of the many things I love about the Hardy Boys (and Nancy Drew, of course!) books. 😎 I learned cool things, too, when reading this book, another great thing about it. Plus, there are interesting characters, such as Pretzel Pete, to help in the search as well, with clues to assist the Hardy brothers. Biff, Tony, and Chet also help – Biff has a date, so he’s pretty anxious to get back. 😀 Their friends are there for them, though! 😎

Great intense scenes, particularly in the second half of the book, and of course there is danger and action throughout the mystery. The great brother team of Frank and Joe have to race against time as they search for their dad. They help each other and look out for each other as brothers should. 😎

The House on the Cliff has a number of favorite cool and exciting scenes that I love to read. The exciting finale has great Hardy action. An intriguing, suspenseful mystery and the Hardy brothers – you can’t miss. 😎

the-hardy-boys-collector-cover-for-2-the-house-on-the-cliff-by-franklin-w-dixonIn May of this year, the book was released with a collector cover and it is really cool! 🙂 And of course the cover art prior to that is also very cool! 😀 I love ’em both. 😀

The Hardy Boys #2 The House on the Cliff is available in hardcover as well as in ebook at your favorite booksellers and also should be at your local libraries. 🙂 Check it out for mystery, action, adventure and the Hardy brothers! 😎 This book is must-read for Hardy fans as they do the right thing and never give up! 😎

The Hardy Boys Papercutz Graphic Novel #5 Sea You, Sea Me ~ My Review

The fifth volume of the Hardy Boys Papercutz series, Sea You, Sea Me, is the very first Hardy Boys graphic novel that I read. It had already been out a while then when I saw a preview on Amazon of the opening action with the fencing scenes, and I was like, okay, that’s cool! 😀 Great artwork, witty banter, and the awesome brother team of Frank and Joe stopping anyone who needs to be stopped. It’s definitely one of my favorites. 😎

This is one of Frank and Joe’s many thrilling adventures where they must face serious obstacles. I enjoy cheering them on as they do a great job fighting evil. 😎

As I already mentioned, the action scenes right off the bat with Frank and Joe taking on bad guys in a fencing showdown is so cool! 🙂 I enjoy the comments and love the cool artwork. It’s also fun when the brothers get their next assignment. They’re anxious to see what it is as are you and me as the readers. In this case, they have to head up to Maine from Bayport, New York. 😎

Before they even reach the location of their assignment, which is to find out what the deal is on a fishing vessel, the brothers are propelled into action when they see danger they can do something about. That’s one of the reasons I love ’em. They see what needs to be done and they do that without hesitation. 😎

Hardy Boys Graphic Novel #5 Sea You Sea Me from PapercutzThere’s plenty of danger and excitement once on the ship, with suspects to question and an intense storm on the sea to survive. Plus, fighting a fire after an explosion and needing to circumvent attempts on their lives during all of the dangerous situations. The brothers are there for each other and know that they’re the only ones, humanly speaking, aboard the ship who they can definitely rely on and trust.

It’s really hard not to share all of my favorite scenes, but for anyone who hasn’t read the book yet, I know you’d want to read it yourself and see what happens. I love it that the brother teamwork is strong and I really enjoy seeing them stop bad people. They help people and are very brave. 😎

Joe’s ongoing fish puns are fun and Frank’s banter back about them. 😎

Frank’s swim meet at the end of the book with Joe encouraging his brother and joking around’s cool and fun. 😎 Yet another fave scene from the book! 🙂 😎

Hardy Boys Graphic Novel #5 Sea You, Sea Me is available in paperback and hardback at libraries, used booksellers, and also the volume is in the digital format of the ebook device of your choice. 🙂 A great read and re-read. 😀 Check it out for exciting adventure and action with the Hardy brothers! 😎

The Hardy Boys are The Clues Brothers #13 Pirates Ahoy! ~ My Review

Nine year old Frank and eight year old Joe Hardy are the Clues Brothers – and treasure hunters! 😎 Pirates Ahoy! is a fun adventure mystery with some good-natured humor included! Who can resist a treasure map? Not the Hardys and Chet – and not me or my sib! 😀 I’m glad we went on the treasure hunt with the Hardys brothers and Chet. 🙂

On the cover you see Joe, Chet, and Frank intently studying a treasure map. The parrot on Joe’s shoulder is quite a character. It’s not Playback, but this parrot is also a smart-aleck one named Horatio Crackerblower. 😛 Horatio is the pet of Captain Sid, also quite a character. Captain Sid owns Captain Sid’s Treasure Cove, a sailing souvenir shop located near the Bayport Marina that the boys go to. 😎

Hardy Boys Clues Brothers 13 Pirates Ahoy by Franklin W Dixon

As mentioned already, there’s some fun humor mixed in with the intriguing mystery. I like looking around the shop, although the dust threatened to make me sneeze a lot. Searching around is fun. Frank, Joe, and Chet are determined to find out if pirates ever stopped in Bayport, plus follow a map to treasure. 😎

So, do they find treasure? Gelt? Do they find proof that pirates were ever in Bayport? Does Chet keep his cookies when they try to go sailing? Well, mateys, you’ll have to read and discover for yerselves! (I couldn’t go through the whole review without a bit of pirate talk! 😆 ) You can search and find a used paperback copy of the Clues Brothers #13 Pirates Ahoy! for a good price or buy it in digital form in the ebook of your choice. Definitely a fun summer read! 🙂 😎

Coming in 2017 ~ All-New Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew Graphic Novels, Comics, and Manga!

Guess what, guess what?!?!? 😀 Ok, so, if you’ve read the title of this post you’ve already picked up some clues to the news! 😉 Are you ready for more Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew comics/graphic novels? 😀 I know I’m ready, and as long as the writers stay true to the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew characters, I will love them! 😎 ❤ At this year’s Comic-Con in San Diego, CA, in July, it was announced by New Jersey’s Dynamite Entertainment that they will be publishing all-new, original Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew graphic novels, manga, and periodical comic books for all ages. 😎

These all-new original series comes from an exclusive arrangement Dynamite Entertainment has secured with Simon and Schuster, who owns the rights to the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew books. The books will begin to be available in 2017. More details coming – keep checking back! 🙂

I hope that the graphic novels, manga, and periodical comic books all will be written and treated with the respect Frank, Joe, and Nancy deserve. 😎 How the characters are written and portrayed is a major factor of whether I like a book or not.

Are you excited? 😀 Vote on the “2017 Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew Comics, Graphic Novels, and Manga Poll“! 🙂

Straight from the Books – Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Facts 4 – What Digest Already?

As Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew fans, we love mysteries! 😎 Sometimes there seems to be a mystery concerning book facts where there’s not an enigma really, just misinformation. The main Hardy Boys series, #1-#190, and the main Nancy Drew series #1-#175,  are the series to refer to about details and facts, in regards to other series or even within the main series, for established character personalities. That real information can be found in the individual volumes consistently reflecting the character’s real characteristics. A small number of books I’ve read in those two series so far have fallen victim to ghostwriters’ discrepancies and errors at times.

It’s not an unusual occurence to come across something online that is incorrect. One of those inaccurate things would be referring to any of The Hardy Boys books or Nancy Drew books as “Digests”. There’s no such thing as a “Digest” series for the Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew. It’s a totally made-up fallacy. No mystery about the facts because it is easily confirmed. There isn’t actually a separate series called “Digests” for the Hardys or Nancy. Calling any of the books Digests isn’t accurate – neither the books nor the publishers refer to them as such. The main/real deal/essential series is The Hardy Boys, as referred to in the books and by the publishers, and also as The Hardy Boys Mystery Stories or Hardy Boys Mysteries. Both the Hardy Boys series, started in 1927, and the Nancy Drew series, started in 1930, came from the creative genius of Edward Stratemeyer, whose characters, Frank, Joe, and Nancy, have been solving mysteries ever since then. 😎

The Hardy Boys main series went into the 21st century, with new mysteries being written and published into 2005. The volumes of this series, not surprisingly, go from #1 through #190 and there’s also The Hardy Boys Detective Handbook. 😎

The Nancy Drew Mysteries also went into the 21st century, having started in 1930, with newly written and published stories to November 2003. There are 175 volumes in the Nancy Drew series, numbered clearly and for a reason, beginning with #1 naturally, plus the Nancy Drew Sleuth Book. 😎

The consecutive numbering provide huge clues that those books are the same series. So there’s really no mystery about that for the Hardys or Nancy.

I don’t understand why anyone would make up some name like Digests that is incorrect and very easily shown not to be accurate. It’s also misleading, I think, and kinda divisive. I’m really not into any of that. I wouldn’t even refer to it on here, but that was one of the things I wanted to address on my blog since you can come across that misinformation online. Finding it on a wiki page or any site simply means someone entered that incorrect info, maybe without knowing it’s inaccurate. I’m sure everyone knows that there are correct things and false things found online, so coming across it on the internet doesn’t make something true.

Proof of evidence is in the books themselves. If you get any of the Hardy Boys books, whether it’s #100 or #190, check inside the book. Yeah, don’t be surprised when you don’t find the books being called “Digests” anywhere in there.

Also, I think it’s cool to note that only one series is called “The Hardy Boys” and one series called “Nancy Drew”. The alternate universe series have different series titles. 😎

Now you know. The Hardy Boys series – Hardy Boys Mystery Stories – #1-#190 1927-2005 – one series. Nancy Drew Series – Nancy Drew Mystery Stories – #1-#175 1930-2003 – also all one series. One of several ways you can tell is from the sequential numbering of the books, as in there’s only one #1 in The Hardy Boys series and the Nancy Drew series. 😎
