Bayport/River Heights Library ~ The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew – Whatcha Reading?

You’re now at the Bayport/River Heights Library, a place to post the title of The Hardy The Hardy Boys Starter SetBoys book and/or Nancy Drew book you’re presently reading, about to read, or just read. 🙂 This virtual library is nice, comfy and fun! As you can picture in your mind’s eye, it’s a beautiful multiple story stone building with grand double doors that are designed to look exactly like a book. To enter, you just open one as if moving the front cover of a book. Then you step inside and are immediately greeted with the sight of an amazing huge room that is bright and cheery with shelves of cool books lining all of the walls. The library is filled with the presence of light. You take notice of the especially comfortable looking couches and Nancy Drew Starter Setchairs including bean bag chairs (that’s what I would pick 😀 ). Some friends are already there reading, but they pause from their individual mysteries to give you a warm smile and friendly wave, happy to see you. After you greet them in return, your eyes travel upward as something draws your attention. An incredible view of the brilliant sky seen through the large skylight built into the elevated ceiling meets you. The same craftwork of details can be seen in the large windows on the main floor that you turn your focus on. Window seats with soft cushions accompany each one. A great view of creation can be seen through the window and you Nancy Drew #11 The Clue of the Broken Locket by Carolyn KeeneHardy Boys 82 Blackwing Puzzle by Franklin W Dixonpause to drink in the sight. Once you reluctantly move your gaze from that, you notice as you look toward the right and toward the left of the main area there are two freestanding spiraling staircases which you can travel to the second level. Once there you can walk along perusing the many volumes filling the shelves all the way around the building. A beautifully crafted railing, much like what is on the spiral staircases, adorn the outermost part of the walkway. From there you can see the entire layout of the library.

  1. Right now I’m working on reading Hardy Boys Mystery Story #34, The Hooded Hawk Mystery. Some of it’s pretty cool as far as Hardy family & friends are written, but some of the stuff unique to this book is incorrect and not cool. There are lots of other books I’d rather read than to ever re-read this one. 😎

    Appreciating the good things,
    Lily

    • Ah, yep, I’ve read this one, and I agree with you wholeheartedly, Lily. Some of it’s okay, but some just isn’t. Not the worst book ever, of course, but didn’t make sense at times and slow in parts. The best part is the action at the conclusion – let me know when you’re finished with the book and what you feel is the best part. 🙂

      • Cool! 🙂 😎 We started a new page, Ann! 😀

        Thank you. 🙂 😎 Yep. I’m looking forward to that! 🙂 😉 😎 Will do. 🙂

        Appreciating the good things,
        Lily

  2. Recently ordered Hardy Boys #149 The Chase of The Mystery Twister. Can’t wait to read it! Sounds exciting!

  3. While I did not have internet(the whole of last month), I read “The Clue in the Embers” book. I have already forgotten a lot of it. *sighs*

Can anyone suggest some good ones from this series?

    • Good use of your time, Ritu! 😉 😀 😎 Hardy Boys books are great to read! 🙂 I haven’t read The Clue in the Embers yet, but I expect to sometime this year – it comes right after The Hooded Hawk Mystery.

#14 The Hidden Harbor Mystery & #21 The Clue of the Broken Blade are two of my favorites. 🙂 I love reading them! 😀 😎

      • Great recommendations, Lily! 🙂 I’ve been wanting to re-read The Clue of the Broken Blade. 🙂 😎 Both of #14 and #21 have a lot of great scenes, action, cool brothers, family – a number of fave parts in them! 🙂

The Clue in the Embers – one of the ugliest HB covers ever. 😛

        • Thanks, Ann! 🙂 Hey, whenever you’re ready to read The Clue of the Broken Blade – let me know and we can read it together, if you want to. 🙂 Yes, there certainly are! 🙂 😎

That’s a very nice way to put it – I know exactly what that cover looks like! 😮 o_O O_o

          Appreciating the good things,
          Lily

          • 🙂 You got yourself a deal, Lily! 🙂 Of course I want to – that’ll be fun! 🙂 Yep! 🙂

            😆 Yeah! 😛 I just don’t care for it! 😛

      • You don’t have to read that Clue in the Embers book. Not a good one.

I agree with you on those two. They are two of my favs, too! 😀 I particulary remember really liking #14. I even remember the pic of that lighthouse island. 🙂

  4. Just finished rereading the Hardy Boys UB #8 Top Ten Ways to Die, and *sigh* I felt I was reading it for the first time. Loved it! ❤
Honestly, at first I was nervous of rereading as I never really usually reread as I'm always afraid that what if reading books the second time was not the same as first time, and how glad I read one of my fav HB the second time! 🙂

    • I’m happy for you, Seema! 🙂 I enjoyed reading that one as well. 🙂

I understand what you’re saying and I’m thankful for books like this because they’re definitely re-readable! 🙂 Some books I have read many times and enjoyed them just as much each of those times. 🙂

      • Thanks! Cool! 🙂

Definitely! 🙂 Yeah, I really enjoyed reading it the second time, and planning on rereading my other favorite HB and ND. 🙂 ❤ Who knows, I may end up reading some of them the third time.

        Happy reading!

        • 🙂 Good mysteries are fun to read numerous times when they are well-done! 🙂 Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew books are pretty good at meeting that requirement! 😉 Ann’s stories are the most re-readable stories I’ve read – they’re even better than the books! 🙂

          Thank you; you, too! 🙂

    • Oh, cool! 😀 So many great, cool scenes in that one! A fave HB UB for me, too! 🙂 It’s awesome when a book is so enjoyable that you can read it over and over and not get tired of it. That’s the way a book should be! 🙂 😎

    • Good to know that! 🙂 Thanks to you, I now have a UB book on my should-be-soon-read list. 😉 😀

  5. I read the HB-Tom Swifts’s “Time Bomb” sometime last month. It was a good book in the science fiction way! Also, there were some really nice moments between Frank and Joe. I liked this book! 😎 😀

I read a HB graphic novel, also, around the same time. That one was forgettable.(I am not able to recall its name. It was the 7th one I think. The one which had a mystery in/on a train.) I found its plot rather silly.

  6. Missed mentioning…The ones I recently read are: the HB mystery story #18 The Twisted Claw, the Case files #59 Open season, #71 Real Horror and#72 Screamers. Now reading the UB book, Running on fumes. 🙂

    • That’s cool you’re on a HB reading spree, Ritu! 🙂 Another friend of mine gave me some Casefiles and Open Season is one of them…I didn’t like it. Screamers and The Twisted Claw are better definitely. Both have good parts. 🙂

      • Hi Ann! ‘Screamers’ had many good parts, just like you said. 🙂

By the way, I read “The House On The Cliff” recently. Loved that one. Definately one of the good HB books! 😀

  7. Hey everybody! 😀 😎 I sure have missed visiting this blog while I was without internet for so long! This is such a cool site that Ann has done such a wonderful job creating! 😀 😎 I’m trying to decide which Hardy Boys books I’m going to read next so I’m looking at her blog! 😀 😎 Great ideas here! 😀 😎

      • Hey Ann! 😀 😎 Thank you! 🙂 The Clue of the Broken Blade. 😎 It’s one of my favorites! 😀 😎

        • Hi Lily! 🙂 How did I miss replying to this?!?! Possibly a wp glitch because that definitely happens. Regardless – I’m so sorry! That’s really cool – I love that one, too! 😎 Praying for you. 🙂

  8. Hello Ann,

I’m not sure if you remember me. This is Seema, your good ole’ HB/ND pal. 😀 Miss talking Hardys and Nancy with you!
How’re you doing? Read any HB or ND recently?

    • Seema!!! 🙂 Of COURSE I remember you!! Missed you, too! *hugs*
Pretty busy, but good! How about you? Yep, re-reading ND The Secret of Red Gate Farm and HBA Shadows at Predator Reef. 😀 What’re you reading? So happy you’re back! 🙂

      • Last Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew books I read…

I read that Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew SM called High Stakes. Not sure if you read it… wasn’t the best read, but I liked it. It was pretty action-packed and kept me hooked. 🙂

I reread a HB UB called #13 The Mummy’s Curse. Again, not sure if you read that one, but it wasn’t the best HB I’ve ever read. Yeah, you must be wondering why I gave it a reread if it wasn’t the best HB. Well, long story. 🙂 It was because I read it way long time ago and I didn’t remember. 🙂

        Nice talking to you again.

        Happy reading! 😀

        • Hey Seema! 🙂 Yep, I’ve read High Stakes – and I agree that it’s not the best. 😛 Most of the time I can find something or some scene that I like in any given ones I read. Pretty cool cover art for High Stakes. 😎

I’ve read a number of UBs, but not that one. I had downloaded a sample chapter to read of The Mummy’s Curse, but didn’t like it enough to put the $ into it at the time. 😛 I understand – when I re-read a book I tend to feel the same way about it as the first time I read it – loving it or not.

          Yep, you, too! 🙂 It’s fun! 🙂

Since I’d last talked with you (before this week), I have had the opportunity to read a HBND SuperMystery for the first time that I really enjoyed!!! 😎 Operation Titanic has so much action and it is easily my fave SuperMystery!!! (I still haven’t read them all yet.) I need to get my review for it done. Cool cover, too. 😎 Have you read it?

Have a great weekend, Seema! 🙂

          • Yup, I agree. Loved the cover art for High Stakes. 🙂

OMG, Operation Titanic! It’s on my TBR. Always been wanting to read it! Guess I should look for it in used Amazon for a good price.

            You too!

            • Yep! 😎 Covers are important!! 😎
Oh, I hope you can find it soon for a great price and read it!!!! 😀 😎 I’m pretty sure you’ll enjoy it. 🙂 I’d been wanting to read it, too, looking for it, so I was really glad to find it – especially since it turned out to be such an interesting mystery with plenty of action! 😎
              Thanks! 🙂

          • Oh, and I hope u wouldn’t mind me asking… but what is it about High Stakes you didn’t like?

I didn’t like the minor attraction between Frank and Nancy, and there were some things that just bothered me, not sure how to put my finger in them. 🙂

            • It’s like you said. I think it wasn’t the worst and wasn’t the best… I guess maybe part of it I was expecting it to be even better than it was. :/
I remember we tend to agree on a lot of the likes and dislikes about a HB or ND book and that you’re not a fan of Frank/Nancy. I’m definitely a Frank/Callie girl, myself. 😎 ❤ 😀

  9. Hey Ann,
    I hope you’re doing well!

I’m thinking of reading HBA #18 The Disappearance. Have you read it? If so, how was it?

    Thanks! 😀

  10. Reading The Hardy Boys #171 The Test Case – starts off fun with an ice skating party in Bayport! With snow outside and chilly temps, I’m ready for a skating party myself! I’m enjoying reading this mystery. 😎

  11. Hi Ann!! Hope you are doing good and having a great day today! 🙂 Happy Birthday!!!! 😀 Oh, in the spirit of where I am – I recently read the HB UB book, ‘Bayport Buccaneers’. Nothing good to say about it. Did not like it.:( I have read a couple of quite good UB books in recent years, though. Like, #7 Operation: Survival.

    • Hi Ritu! 🙂 ****HUGS!!**** So happy to see you back on here! 🙂 Thank you so much!! 🙂 I have read both of those and would love to discuss them with you. 🙂 I can find something good about Bayport Buccaneers. 😉

      • 🙂 **HUGS for you, too!** Lol. Okay, fair. Something good was there in that book, too. 😉 Really, if it was not for that, I won’t still be reading them. 🙂 I just wish they had better writers. Much better, who would pay attention to the overall plot. I recently got to borrow and read a few HB graphic novels(mostly bad, plot wise), and yes, read the HB first adventure book, “Secret of the Red Arrow” today. *sighs* I am thinking of these when I am saying that. Could it be I am finally too old for these books? lol.

        • Btw, it is good to be back and have someone talk about these books!! :p 😀 I have missed you! 🙂 (It will be hard to discuss any book for me without spoilers. So..? I mean like there was this scene in “Operation: Survival” that I loved a lot but can’t even mention it without spoiling for those who have not read it. 😦 )

          • Yes, so happy you’re back! 🙂 And I’m glad you missed me and didn’t forget about me!!!! I have some favorite scenes in Operation: Survival, too. I’ll try to get a chance to re-read it this weekend and get a review posted soon and you can post spoilers on it that post with a spoiler tag. 🙂 Some people like to read spoilers. 😎 If it’s noted as a spoiler then they can either keep reading the comment or wait until they read the book. 🙂

        • 🙂 Thanks for the hugs, Ritu! 🙂 Yep, I’m glad, too, that there was at least one cool part. 😎 That’s part of the mystery, right? 😛 Yep, in all of the series, there are some volumes that need better writers, but thankfully, also books with great writing and mysteries. That’s part of what I like about there being a variety of writers, then we aren’t stuck with the ones who fail the characters and the plots. I really liked the first part of Secret of the Red Arrow. It really seemed like two different writers since it pretty much fell part into the second half of the book.
No, you’re definitely not too old, you’re young and appreciate good writing, so when it’s not as good, you notice it. 😎

  12. Hello Ann,
So I’m just reminding you to subscribe to my website please. 🤭
I mean, no pressure, of course!
    Thanks.

          • Thank you so much for understanding, Seema! 🙂 I miss talking Hardys and Nancy with you, too! I’m reading Nancy Drew The Thirteenth Pearl right now. Have you read that one yet?

              • Hi Seema! 🙂 Awesome that you got to read A Hardy Day’s Night!!!! Yep, I was sure you would love it! The book has a lot of great scenes! Yes, I agree – so cute and heartwarming! ❤
I will do that hopefully very soon! I expected to have been back before now and I was hoping to be on here for your birthday today so that I could tell you HAPPY BIRTHDAY! ❤ 🙂 – praying you have a great awesome birthday! ❤ Hope you get cool Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew books! 🙂

                • Hey Ann,

Thanks so much for making time to be on here for my birthday. I can’t tell you how much that made my day. 🥺
